Contract
No 2:
Speke Retail Park, Speke, Liverpool:
Main Contractor: Kier North West:
This contract involved the complete strip out of two retail
units to form one large unit.
One of the units had previously been a large carpet warehouse, the second
unit had been a clothing store.
The scope of the work included the following:
Remove all carpet floor coverings.
Remove all suspended ceilings.
Remove all shop fixtures, and fittings.
Remove the amenity blocks within the redundant carpet store.
Remove all redundant electrical, and mechanical equipment.
Remove all external signage.
Demolition of full height block-work dividing wall.
Plus small amounts of insignificant work.
The two units were virtually new so extreme care was required to ensure damage to surrounding structures didn’t occur.
Initially we were the only trades in the buildings, but as soon
as safety allowed other trades were brought to site to carry out their own
aspects of the overall contract.
This added another issue, that being the safety of other operatives when working
in what was still effectively a demolition area.
With careful planning, and on going discussions with the site supervisors
of the other trades, and the main contractors site manager all of our work
was completed on time, and without compromising the safety of anybody.
Due to the age of the buildings some equipment, which became
redundant, was re-usable, this equipment was removed by a local company who
specialise in the salvage of such equipment.
This included specialist lighting, shelving/racking, and ventilation equipment.
During the strip out of this and any other buildings we
always separate all re-usable materials, from materials with no further use.
This reduces the amount of debris ending up being disposed off at landfill
sites.
As a company we are extremely aware of our responsibilities towards the environment,
in particular where landfill sites are concerned.
