Contract
No 5:
Girobank Site, Bootle:
Main Contractor: C & K Contracts Ltd
As mentioned above, on certain occasions we carry out demolition contracts direct for companies not necessarily involved in the construction industry.
This particular contract had its own set of individual difficulties.
As can be seen the surrounding car-parks are empty, this was because the pictures
were taken at around 7.00am, 20- 30 minutes later the car-park, and any grass
banks, footpaths or the like were completely full of cars. Some of the car
drivers were not always as helpful as they might have been.
Also
the multi story building in the picture housed the offices of some of the
main managers, and the building maintenance manager.
We were then in constant view of these people, throughout the demolition contract.
As can be seen the building is a single story timber construction. Although this type of building is relatively easy to demolish due to the height, and materials, without extreme care and a skilled operator the levels of waste would be significantly higher than was necessary.
Once
the demolition, and site clearance was complete we were contracted to tidy
the site, and lay stone to provide extra car parking spaces.
The third picture is the result of our operations.
This was the third contract we have carried out at the Girobank site, all being completed on time and within budget.
C & K Contracts: Summary:
We believe the route to a successfully completed demolition
contract is based on supplying the right fully trained, experienced operatives,
the right equipment, and good supervision.
We instil in all our operatives safety is the key issue, all operatives are
told if they feel they are being asked to carry out operations they are inadequately
trained for, or we haven’t provided the correct personnel protective
equipment, then they must not carry out the work. To date this has never occurred.
The two brothers/directors are both totally hands on, they both operate the
demolition plant, and they also have heavy goods licences.
Something we pride ourselves about is that in all the years we have never had to make any operatives redundant, as with any company, employees occasionally leave of there own choice, but we have a number of employees who have been with the company a number of years, in fact we have one operative who has been with us since we started, and others who have been with us since 1995/1996.
We carry out demolition contracts ranging from below £500.00 right up contracts of over £500,000.00. There is literally no job to small, and where program allows there are few jobs to large.
